A graduate of Wellesley College, Harvard University and Boston University, Dr. Yap has trained with Suzanne Flynn, PhD, in the Department of Foreign Languages & Literature Department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Gil G. Noam, PhD, EdD, Dipl. Phil., at the Laboratory of Developmental Psychology & Developmental Psychopathology at the Hall-Mercer Center for Children & Adolescents at the McLean Hospital, and Michael W. Otto, PhD, at the Clinical Psychopharmacology & Behavior Therapy Unit in the Department of Psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She has served as a mentor to students selected for the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) Medical Student Geriatrics Scholars Program, and is honored to be selected as a mentor to one of the 26 talented students chosen as the MGH's Bicentennial Scholars [3]. As part of Dr. Yap's commitment to support innovative research and treatments for Alzheimer's disease, she is also an annual reviewer for grant propoals submitted to the Alzheimer's Association for competitive funding.
Dr. Yap was elected in 2012 to serve a 3-year term on the national Alzheimer's Disease Centers' (ADCs) Administrators Steering Committee. As an administrator, she is always keen on developing reciprocal exchange programs between institutions to provide access to different research and teaching environments and technologies.
A project that Dr. Yap had developed was the creation of a brand-new website in 2010 for the Center, together with web-developers from Agaric Design Collective [4] and Stephane Corlosquet [5] of the Science Collaboration Framework [6], and led by Tim Clark [7] of the Data Core. She is quite thrilled with the results.
My passion is in academic administration. I also have a keen interest in outreach to underserved communities with regard to neurodegenerative diseases, and supporting foreign medical students and post-doc researchers in their training & productivity during their time with us in Boston.
